NEW YORK STATE RAILWAYS ROCHESTER LINES The New York State Railways, Rochester & Sodus Bayand Rochester & Eastern lines, operate an express businessin and out of Rochester, but the business is not growingvery rapidly on account of limited terminal facilities inRochester and because a city ordinance prohibits the op-eration of freight and express cars through the streets ofRochester during the daytime. On the Rochester & SodusHay line the inbound shipments consist principally ofeggs, dressed meat, fresh fruit, milk and other provisions, while the outbound shipments are confined to bread, icecream, produce and merchandise consigned to small storesin the nearby towns. The Rochester & Eastern line handlesonly a small amount of inbound express but handles a good. Electric Delivery Wagon in Rochester volume of outbound merchandise to points as far asGeneva. It also does a carload switching business in con-nection with the steam roads in its territory for which itreceives a flat rate per car.
