Johann Adam Siepen (born June 8, 1851 in Düren and died January 27th, 1904 in Düsseldorf) was a foot painter. Adam Siepen was born with a disability in the Jesuit House in Düren. He had no arms and his right leg was missing from the thigh. He used his left foot for daily chores. Siepen's artistic talent was recognised early on and after his early years in Düren, he went on to the Düsseldorf Academy of Painting. There he studied with Professor Julius Roeting and Professor Andreas Müller. He then moved to the Dresden Art Academy and later to the Munich Art Academy before settling in Düsseldorf in 1886. Siepen mainly painted portraits for customers in Germany, Spain and the USA. Here he had specialised in gypsy portraits. With the only foot he had, he mixed his own colours. He opened and closed the tubes with the calf of his right leg. So he was completely self-sufficient when painting. Despite his disability, he sketched, caricatured and drew with an incredible level of detail.
