Designed as a family home in 1774 by David Henderson, Inverleith House was the founding home of the Scottish National Gallery of Modern Art from 1960 to 1984. The building underwent a major refurbishment in 2004 with support from SAC National Lottery Funds to provide new educational facilities and improved access. Inverleith House runs an award-winning programme of five temporary exhibitions per year, uniquely spanning the visual arts and botanical science, and supports the creation of new work by emerging and established artists from Scotland and abroad. It is run and administered by the Royal Botanic Garden Edinburgh, with financial support from The Scottish Arts Council (SAC).
