Three styles of vernacular buildings at Einacleite, on the Isle of Lewis.A mortared stone two-storey 'whitehouse' has been built inside and on top of the ruins of a blackhouse, while part of the latter has been roofed with corrugated iron to make a single storey extension/workshop. The whitehouse has chimneys at each gable end & a corrugated iron roof. To the rear are more recent buildings & a telephone box from the Old Post Office hidden behind the white house. The tigh geal (or whitehouse) was introduced as an improvement upon the traditional drystone and thatched blackhouses. The pasture in the foreground shows the ridges of former lazy bed cultivation.
