This huge moulin is consuming the ice melt from a whole river on the surface of the glacier. The water drops to the bottom of the glacier and, in most cases, flows out to sea. The roaring and mist that is thrown up as it engorges a complete torrent is incredible. Especially when the only other sounds are the creaking of the ice and your own breathing. This includes the rate of retreat of the glaciers, the ice lakes that disappear down moulins and various tracking methods to see where the water is deposited.
