Mr Facey Romford's Hounds by Robert Smith Surtees [Bradbury and Evans, London, 1865] was written as a comedic look at the fox-hunting fraternity. Facey Romford is a trickster who takes advantage of society's greed and gullibility, and gets away with it. Two key illustrarors/artists of the time were chosen to illustrate this book namely John Leech and Hablot Knight Browne (who usually signed himself Phiz). Leech was perhaps best known for his Punch illustrations and Phiz for his illustration of Charles Dickens books.
