Im Jahr 1436 arrangierte König Sam Fang Kaen von Chiang Mai eine Prozession des Smaragd-Buddha-Bildes von Chiang Rai nach Chiang Mai. Der Elefant, der das Bild trug, rannte in Richtung Lampang und weigerte sich, Lampang zu erreichen.
