Shotoku Taishi, anonym, 1200 - 1350 Japanisches Holz, Spuren von Polychromie, 74 cm x 32 cm x 40 cm, der Buddhismus nahm in Japan Mitte des 6. Jahrhunderts Einzug. Um 600 war der Staatsmann Shotoku Taishi ein wichtiger Verfechter der neuen Religion. Später wurde er selbst als Gottheit verehrt. Hier wird Shotoku Taishi als zweijähriges Kind dargestellt, in dem er traditionell zum ersten Mal Buddha verehrt hat. Der Bildhauer hat erfolgreich ein kindliches Gesicht gemacht, das aber dennoch große Weisheit vermittelt.
