In der skandinavischen (nordischen) Mythologie war die alte Frau, die Thor besiegen konnte, als Elli bekannt. Sie war eine der Dienerinnen von Utgarda-Loki, die in Jotunheim, dem Land des Riesen, lebte. Thor war der gott des Donners und somit der gott der Macht und des Krieges.
