Some of the male members of the tribe wear the plates in their ears. DEBUB OMO ZONE, ETHIOPIA: MEET THE tribe where women begin stretching their lips with large plates at the age of FIFTEEN to enhance their beauty. Striking shots showed a scarred Mursi woman picking her teeth without her lip disc in and a bullhorn wearing matriarch with lip skin drooping below her chin. Another eye-catching image captured a lady with a six-inch, red-patterned lip plug balancing a headdress of Indian nightshade fruit on her head. The outstanding images were captured by photographer, Fabrizio Crippa (48) from Milan, Italy. The snapper used a Canon EOS 5D Mark IV with a 70-200mm for the shoot of the Mursi tribe of Debub Omo Zone, Ethiopia. Women undergo the practice as it is said to enhance beauty. Archaeologists estimate the plates have been dug up across Ethiopia from as early as 8700 BC. Girls have to have two to four front teeth removed to be pierced for a lip plate. The plates can be made of clay or wood and are worn for most of their adult lives. To eat and talk they have to remove it, but they also take their plates out for photographers like Fabrizio. mediadrumworld.com / Fabrizio Crippa
