A paramilitary soldier guards outside the No. 9 of the Puning County jail, where a 24-year-old inmate died suspiciously, in Jilin county, Kunming city, southwest Chinas Yunnan province, February 20, 2009. The Yunnan government made a surprisingly open move this week by inviting an investigation team including journalists and Internet users over the suspicious death of a 24-year-old inmate. But after all the investigation produced was a meaningless report, many are wondering if the whole deal was not much more than a PR stunt. Li Qiao Ming, who was in jail for illegal logging, died in jail of head trauma. According to the Jinning public security bureau, Li was fatally injured while playing hide-and-seek (Elude the Cat) with other inmates, one of whom supposedly reacted angrily when his hiding-place was uncovered by Li. According to the bureau, Li was pushed and struck a wall as he fell.
