For many deaf children, their partially impaired hearing can be improved to normal ability by cochlea implantation and wearing the hearing aid. Over the past five years, China has launched a free rehabilitation project for the hearing-loss children living in poverty, by which 2, 653 kids have received implanted cochleas and another 19, 875 have got hearing aids, according to the China Rehabilitation and Research Center For Deaf Children. By far, a network involving 1, 279 rehabilitation institutions and serving for deaf children has been set up in China, covering nearly 300, 000 hearing-impaired individuals. Since the hearing ability enhance effectively, lots of deaf children no longer live in the soundless world and are able to study for knowledge. In the next five years, China plans to invest 1.76 billion RMB (272.1 million U.S. dollars) to implant artificial cochleas for free to some 16, 000 children with severe hearing impairment, and another 12, 000 deaf children might wear free hearing aids as well.
