An average POW transport took about four days to arrive at the camp, only the fittest made it, and very few saw the outside of these camps walls that you're looking at now. The longest transport of the war, from Corfu, took 18 days. When the train arrived at the camp and the doors were opened, everyone was already dead, those innocents in that transport either died from suffocation, hypothermia, heatstroke, starvation, dehydration, or chronic respiratory disease caused by inhaling of quick lime. If you were lucky to survive, you would have either been killed immediately on arrival, or sentenced to work in the most hellish conditions. While 90% of Jews died in this camp, I must also remind people that it wasn't just Jews. Soviet Muslims, homosexuals, thieves, political and anti-Nazi activists, or those sentenced to death in the nearby community township courts, unrelated to war. Those not up to the "Master Race" requirements were also sentenced to a horrific death, although those individuals were killed in masses at hospitals and care homes miles away from the camp.
