Viktor Seifert (12) took part in a composition competition to write a (short) symphony for the 20th Anniversary of the British Wind Band Association. He was the runner-up and was awarded with "highly commended". Apart from the three prize winners, who were professional composers, he was the only one who got an award. Tomorrow night, Thursday 30 January, the Edinburgh based Capital Concert Band will perform his piece (not a public concert, but during their weakly rehearsal), and Viktor will be conducting his own piece. The band will play at the Church Hall of St Andrew's Leith, the entrance for the church hall is at Lochend Road. The rehearsal will start at 7.30pm. It will be a fun and educational event. The Director of Music of the band, Kevin Lamb, was the former Head of School and Chief Instructor of the Royal Military School of Music, and he was one of the judges of the competition. He was very impressed by the fact that a child wrote such a symphony and was curious to meet the young composer Viktor, and keen to perform the piece for him live with his band. It is a fantastic opportunity for Viktor to conduct his own piece, as he wants to become a composer and conducter.
