Vertumnos Fountain. Island garden in the Spanish Royal Gardens, The Parterre garden, Aranjuez, Spain. At the beginning of the longitudinal axis of the garden is the one popularly known as the Apollo fountain, dedicated to the god Vertumno. It is attributed to the sculptor Miguel Ángel Naccherino, a disciple of Juan de Bologna. It has an octagonal pylon, decorated with bas-reliefs depicting scenes of Hercules —fighting with the Nemean lion, killing the Hydra, attacking the centaurs and killing the centaur Neso—, four shields of the kingdom of Castile, four lions and four taps. In the center a pedestal in the shape of a vase and above the cup, decorated with fruit, on which the figure of the god sits. This presents two of his attributes, the garland and a basket with fruit, and appears accompanied by a winged monster, with the head of a reptile, the body and legs of a bird, and the tail of a dragon, which stretches its neck asking for food.
