Wollaton hall. Grade 1 Listed Elizabethan Mansion in Nottingham. 500 acres grounds. designed by Robert Smythson and built by Sir Francis Willoughby between 1580 and 1588. Built in the English Renaissance style, its central lower tower and flanking turrets are considered to be a masterpiece. The House was repaired and remodeled in 1801 by Sir Jeffery Wyattville and later occupied by the Middleton's. The interior of the building is much preserved, boasting fabulous design. The Tudor Kitchens are much admired with original beehive ovens and a restored charcoal stove and have been furnished according to the 1601 inventory. The Regency Dining Room is shown as it would have looked during the Wyattville restoration, whilst the Regency Salon is presented as it would have been in 1832 when Lady Jane Middleton was in residence. The Prospect Room is situated on top of the Great Hall with panoramic views of the city and surrounding area. The Bird Room, has been recreated to 1920s when Wollaton Hall first became a natural history museum, complete with interactive exhibits.
