Weitere Informationen:
Sudeley Castle is a historic castle located in the Cotswolds, Gloucestershire, England. It is particularly noted for its royal connections, having been the home of Queen Catherine Parr, the sixth and last wife of King Henry VIII. She lived here after the king's death and is also buried on the grounds in St. Mary's Church, making Sudeley Castle the only private castle in England to have a queen buried within its grounds. The castle's history dates back to the 10th century, but the majority of the existing structure was built in the 15th century. It has seen many alterations and renovations over the centuries, reflecting the changing needs and tastes of its owners. The castle is now renowned for its well-preserved Tudor architecture and beautiful gardens, which include 10 unique areas and a 1, 200 plant knot garden. Sudeley Castle has endured a turbulent history, including being used as a base by King Richard III during the Wars of the Roses and later being substantially destroyed during the English Civil War in the 17th century. It was restored in the 19th century by the Dent-Brocklehurst family, who still own and reside in the castle today. Sudeley Castle is open to the public and offers visitors a chance to explore its historic rooms and exhibitions, which showcase artefacts spanning its thousand-year history. Highlights include the Queen's Garden, so named because four of England's queens - Anne Boleyn, Katherine Parr, Lady Jane Grey, and Elizabeth I - have walked upon it. The castle also hosts events and exhibitions, keeping its rich history alive for visitors and future generations.
