A landmark pub, Peveril of the Peak is a Grade II listed building (circa 1820, named after a famous stage coach, and close to the architecturally significant Bridgewater Hall). Bright green-tile marks its exterior and an abundance of stained glass is inside. The Pev looks a bit lonely on its corner plot, most of its former neighbours were cleared for redevelopment. Clad in green ceramic tiles it stands out, shines even. Its unusual in both its appearance and in its name, which commemorates a famous Manchester to London stagecoach, which in turn took its name from Sir Walter Scott's novel. The man who built the stagecoach, apparently, also built the pub.
