The annual Winter event Walton Festival of Light is an impressive spectacle, a procession of hand made lanterns in many shapes and sizes. Here a rearing horse is a fabulous feature, impressive and eye catching. The streets of this Surrey town are filled with children and parents thronging to the Heart Shopping Centre for carol singing and appearances by celebrities at the Radio Jackie stand. Walton is a small town close to the river Thames. It has a rich history in silent movie making. The building now known as The Playhouse has existed in Walton-on-Thames for over seventy years. The Playhouse was built by Cecil Hepworth as the centre for the film studios that existed in Walton-on-Thames at that time. The studio was one of the first indoor studios and one of the first to use artificial light. The Regal Cinema, closed in 1971 to make way for the Heart Shopping Centre.
