The Golan Heights were the setting for bitter battles between Israel and Syria in the Six Day war and the Yom Kippur war in 1967 and in 1973 respectively. During the fighting many Syrian villages were abandoned as their inhabitants fled the battle grounds. Today many structures like the one in the picture still stand abandoned, deserted, speaking quietly of another era when the sounds of battle played loud in the Golan Heights. They stand untouched in very much the same state they witnessed the fighting end riddled with the marks of bullets and shrapnel of the two conflicting armies
