The Dom Tower (Cathedral Tower, Dutch: Domtoren) of Utrecht is the tallest church tower in the Netherlands at 112.5 meters / 368 feet. The Gothic style tower is the symbol of the city, which is often referred to as Domstad. The tower was part of the Cathedral of Saint Martin, also known as Dom Church, and was built between 1321 and 1382, to a design by John of Hainaut (Jan van Henegouwen). The cathedral was never fully completed due to lack of money. Since the unfinished nave of the cathedral collapsed in a tornado in 1674 the Dom tower became a free standing tower. It stands at the spot where the city of Utrecht originated 2, 000 years ago. There is an underground museum dedicated to these Roman origins just beneath this street.
