Temple's abounded in and around the ancient city of Yogyakarta. One which is quite close at hand and one of the most aw inspiring is the UNESCO World Heritage listed ancient Hindu temple, Prambanan. Prambanan is the biggest Hindu temple complex in Java. There are many temples in and close to Prambanan, but the largest by far is the high Shiva Temple. This amazing architectural structure dominates the area as it towers 47 meter high. Flanked either side of the mighty Shiva Temple are two other temples. On one side is a temple dedicated to Vishnu and on the other a temple dedicated to Brahma. Prambanan was constructed during the 9th century AD.
