This year's Silverstone Classic will see a star-studded line-up of celebrity drivers taking to the track for the Celebrity Challenge Trophy Race to race flat-out in a huge grid of up to fifty Austin A30s and A35s (well-known cars in classic racing circles, introduced a few years ago by the Historic Racing Drivers Club as a cost-effective route into historic racing). Once the final list of celebrities taking part in the Race is confirmed, they will be split into ten teams representing their professions – for example TV, sport and music with each team being mentored by a renowned racing driver. The race programme for the grid over the weekend of the Classic will be split into two parts; owners of the cars will qualify on Friday and race on Sunday while the celebrities, together with their team captains, will be in action on Saturday. We expect fifty cars to compete with the winning driver scoring 50 points, 2nd place scoring 49 points, 3rd place scoring 48 points and so on – wherever a car finishes will score its driver the appropriate number of points for their team; and the team with the most points wins! There will also be a podium award for the first, second and third novice celebrity to finish. Each celebrity team will be in with a chance of winning the charity prize fund of at least £10, 000. Prostate Cancer UK is the official chosen charity of the Silverstone Classic and will receive a proportion of this prize fund, but each team may additionally select a chosen charity to share in the winners' prize fund. The Austin A35 is a small family car that was sold by Austin from 1956 until 1968. Some 280, 897 A35s of all types were produced.
