The John Fitzgerald Kennedy Memorial is situated at Runnymede, Surrey, UK. "The monument was designed by Sir Geoffrey A Jellicoe CBE." ( Architect, Landscape Architect and Writer ) "Jellicoe based the design of the memorial on the overall theme of Bunyan's Pilgrim's Progress - that of LIFE, DEATH and SPIRIT. Thus the monument is of three parts - STEPS, STONE and SEATS. The inspiration for the conversion of the analogy into landscape reality came from early 16th century renaissance paintings by Giovanni Bellini and Georgione Castelfranco." To the right of the memorial stone, " is the terrace walk. This is deliberately detatched from the threshold steps" (of the main memorial stone) "giving the impression of leading into the future like Jacobs ladder". This walkway culminates in two stone seats, provided for reflective thought. The landscape setting for the memorial is " intentionally natural" and "is not compromised by neatly cut grass or trim flowerbeds".
