Sit-in workers of the Visteon Factory in west Belfast, 7 April, 2009. Visteon car parts factory in west Belfast closes with the loss of 200 jobs. Administrators moved in on the morning Tuesday March 31st, 2009 and said the factory was closing. Workers say they are not leaving until they reach agreement on redundancy. Administrators KPMG went to the High Court seeking authorisation to force out those staging a sit-in at the plant since being made redundant in March. Workers voted to accept a redundancy deal but said they would stay in the factory until the money was in their bank accounts. Mr Justice Deeny granted the order following two adjournments. Almost 600 jobs were lost at Visteon's three plants in the UK - 210 at Finaghy in Belfast - with staff being given less than an hour's notice. KPMG said it had no alternative but to close the factories. It said the business had never been profitable and Visteon UK's reported losses totalled £669m. But staff said they were given little notice of the closure, claiming they were given guarantees on pay and conditions when the company split from Ford nine years ago. Two hundred employees have been involved in the sit-in. The eviction order now means the administrators can go to the Enforcement of Judgments Office if they want to act on it.
