War has been reflected in art thoroughout all time; artists have learned to capture the sense of symbolism, cruelty and force combat. The nasca artists were unable to elude this reality and, in spite of not possessing great sculptural skills, used their painting ability to effectively highlight the substantial elements of struggle and battle, thus managing to combine the dictates of ritual as well as pictorial quality and use colour in their works. The observation of these trophy heads confronts one with a diversity of sensations; their somewhat primitive character calls one's attention to the sober way in which the ferocity, pain and strength of these faces has been expressed
