The dome is seventy meters high and designed by the son Kilian Ignaz Dietzenhofer to replace a smaller dome his father had designed The complex the church was once the Jesuit College built concurrently as part of the Counter Reformation but was closed in 1773 when the Jesuit Order was expelled under Maria Theresa and Josef II under the Editct of Toleration and subsequent loosening of religious, political and social restrictions.
