The summit of this craggy hilltop stands over 1000 feet high and is a magnet for walkers, runners (and photographers). Standing just inside the North York Moors National Park on the border with Teesside, Roseberry Topping provides views on a clear day as far as the eye can see into Durham County in the north and to The Pennines in the west. It is affectionately known as the Teesside Matterhorn, due to its distinctive conical shape, which in turn is the result of the hill's hard sandstone cap protecting the underlying shales and clays from erosion by the effects of ice, wind and rain.
