Rows of memorial plaques to commemorate over 200 resistance fighters executed in the Citadel, Arras, France during World War Two. The Mur des Fusillés is a monument to 218 patriots from various towns and Resistance Groups who were shot in the ditches of the citadel by the German occupiers between 1941 and 1944. A single post marks the actual execution point, whilst there are over 200 plaques along the walls of the citadel, showing the name, age, occupation and organisation of the victims. It is located at one corner of the Arras Citadel close to the CWGC Arras Memorial . The Arras Citadel was constructed following Vauban's plans at the instigation of Louis XIV between 1668 and 1672. She is thus one of many of the famous star shaped fortresses scattered throughout France (and also Ieper).
