There are several 'pyramid sites' in Sudan: Meroe, Nuri, el-Kurru... The pyramids in this photograph are located next to Jebel Barkal hill, today - near Karima town. Thousands of years ago the place was called Napata. Napata was founded by Egyptian pharaoh Thutmose III in the 15th century BC after his conquest of Nubia. The Jebel Barkal hill was taken to mark the southern border of the Egyptian kingdom. Napata became the capital city of the Nubian (Kushite) Kingdom in 1150 BC. 300 later the Kushite rulers moved the capital to Meroe. The pyramids are from a later period - they were built after 3rd century BC. More: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Napata en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jebel_Barkal en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nubian_pyramids
