This is the 'Old Life Boat Station at Pultney Town Wick, Caithness. It was replaced some time ago by the latest generation of boats that remain moored and ready to 'go', rather than have to be launched, as they would have been from this particular station. In its hey day Wick was a major port for the North Sea herring fleet. The men who crewed the number of boats, many of which were sail powered and almost countless, would have felt secure in the knowledge that this station and crew were ready to protect the fishermen if need be as they went about their perilous occupation.
