Haworth village is situated at the edge of the Pennine Moors in West Yorkshire, England. Home of the famous Brontë sisters, Haworth is a literary 'mecca' and attracts visitors from all around the world. With its historic cobbled Main Street, iconic parsonage and rolling moors, this picturesque Airedale village exudes a vintage charm that can make visitors feel as if they've stepped back into the 19th century. In 1820 Patrick Brontë was appointed as incumbent of Haworth, and he arrived here with his wife Maria, and their six children. Haworth remained the family's home for the rest of their lives, and the moorland setting had a profound influence on the writing of Charlotte, Emily and Anne Brontë. This is a view looking down the steep Main Street where there are a lot of independent businesses ranging from shops selling luxurious, hand-made chocolates to art galleries and a variety of places to eat and drink. The correct term for the cobblestones here, is 'setts.' Cobbles are rounded pieces of stone similar to pebbles found on river beds, which are always set in clay, vertically. 'Setts' are shaped pieces of stone which are close-laid and pointed with mortar or bitumen.
