Orange Poortje As the governor and his staff found it far beneath them, through the main entrance of the church - along with the mob - theenter religious house was made a separate entrance for them. The so-called Orange Poortje with Arm Leeuwarden and the Governor and several family above. In 1663 the Magistrate of the city of Leeuwarden took the decision that the entrance on the east side of the church (The Well)needed a more dignified appearance. To this end, command was given to the making of a gate plus the renewal of the window above.This window was stained glass on which the arms of the Magistrate were shown. The gate, which is present still (partly)was a remarkable award in the form of a sort of obelisk topped by a tree. It consisted of an outer port, and a port within both of which were provided with doors. In between was a vaulted corridor. In 1785 it was described as follows:
