UK, Olympic tower groundbreaking ceremony, Weymouth, Dorset. Olympic sailing contenders Annie Lush, centre, Kate, left and Lucy Macgregor helped to break ground for the new Sea Life Tower in Weymouth, Dorset. Also pictured are town mayor Graham Winter, left and Sea Life boss Craig Dunkerley. The tower will be open in time for the Olympic sailing events nearby this year. The girls and official guests were whisked by crane 40 meters above the site to see what the views will be when the tower is finished. The £3.5 million attraction on the corner of Weymouth’s Festival Pier, alongside the ferry terminal, will overlook the Olympic Festival Village, and provide a bird’s eye view of the event course over which the three local girls will be vying for medals next summer. Operated by Weymouth Sea Life Park owners Merlin Entertainments, at its highest point the view on a clear day will extend far beyond Weymouth Bay and Portland into the English Channel, and many miles along the famous Jurassic coast. Turning through a full 360-degrees it will also reveal an incredible panoramic vista of the resort itself and some of West Dorset’s beautiful countryside. 04/01/12 Picture: Dorset Media Service.
