The Neoclassical Royal Palace (Palatul Regal) at Revolution square (at Piata Revolutiei, which is a contemporary art district of Bucharest), was first built by prince Dinicu Golescu in 1815 and then underwent general restoration between 1927 and 1937 after damage from the great fire. The palace was home to King Carol II and to his son, King Mihai I, until 1947until the monarchy was abolished in Romania. Today is home to National Museum of Contemporary Art including extensive Royal collection of Romanian and International works of art.
