Founded in 940 AD, it is one of the most important temples of the Shingon sect of Japanese Buddhism. The temple grounds span approximately 165, 000 square meters and consist of numerous structures, including the Great Main Hall (Daihondo), a three-story pagoda, and several other prayer halls and auxiliary buildings.
