The Singapore Central Business District (CBD) is the country's core financial and commercial district, housing many international and local banks and company headquarters. It is located at the Shenton and the new Marina Bay area, at the mouth of the Singapore River. The CBD used to be Singapore's point of entry for immigrants who would travel by boat to the island State via the Clifford Pier, in the old colonial days. It is also the transhipment point for goods and materials from around the world where ships will unload their goods at the Boat Quay and Clarke Quay areas. The area can perhaps be best described as witness and evidence of SIngapore's transformation from an entrepôt economy to its current status as a world renown financial hub. The photo shows a view of Singapore's Central Business District (CBD) from the Marina Bay Sands' promenade during the nightly free public performance, titled "Wonder Full."
