The London Shard at London Bridge will be, at just over 310m, Europe's tallest building when completed in 2012. Work started in 2008 with the demolition of the previous building on the site, Southwark Towers, and as at the time of this photograph the core and over 30 floors are in place It is being constructed by Mace plc and designed by the architect Renzo Piano. The engineers WSP Group have incorporated features to minimise the risks identified after the collapse of the World Trade Towers in New York. The project also includes the redevelopment of the London Bridge railway and tube stations.
