MYANMAR. Yangon. 2013. Colonial Railway building. MYANMAR (Burma), Yangon (Rangoon), November 14, 2013. The old colonial Railway Headquarters in the center of the former Burmese capital. The building which was built in 1877 has been abandoned for years but is now being refurbished. It is part of a large project development and will be converted into a 5-star luxury hotel. Many of these decaying structures are located primarily in the Old Town of Yangon in the Chinese and Muslim quarter. After decades of political isolation and economic embargo the South East Asian country which is rich in natural resources is gradually opening up and showing signs of economic and political reforms. Parts of those political reforms include the release of large numbers of imprisoned monks. Many Burmese are hoping for further steps toward democracy and more economic reforms after the next elections in November 2015.
