Blowhole, is a 15 meter high kinetic sculpture, made from stainless-steel and aluminium sculpture, by Sydney artist, Duncan Stemler in 2005. 'Blowhole' situated in Docklands Park, on Melbourne's waterfront, is a 15-metre high wind-powered kinetic sculpture. As the wind blows through, armature and cups interact with each other to form patterns, colours and shadows. Like an anemometer on a yacht’s mast, Blowhole's various parts spin in different directions, reflecting the site's maritime theme.. The colourful results are dictated by the whims of the location’s prevailing winds. The colourful results are dictated by the whims of the location’s prevailing winds. Blowhole is environmentally responsive artwork expressing various states from calmness to frenzy, with the rotation speed (which rotates around its vertical axis) of its elements depending upon the strength and direction of the wind. By day the anodised cups pulse and dazzle with the glinting sunlight. At night they are lit from within.
