Loch Sloy Dam near Loch Lomond. In 1945, the Scottish Parliament approved a scheme to build Loch Sloy dam, a tunnel through Ben Vorlich and pipelines to Loch Sloy Power station on the shores of Loch Lomond. Loch Sloy is now 1160 feet long and is 160 feet high and is was selected as it was a much smaller peaty loch but was situated at a height of 780 feet above sea level in a valley overshadowed by Ben Vorlich (3092 feet) and Ben Vane (3004 feet) and was an ideal location according to hydro-electric engineers for a dam to help produce electricity for Clyde and central Scotland. The project was officially opened by Her Majesty The Queen on 18th October 1950
