Weitere Informationen:
This newly built center in Hertfordshire will host the Canoe Slalom competition for the 2012 Olympics in London. It is 30km north of the Olympic Park at Stratford in London. It is on the edger of the 1, 000-acre River Lee Country Park which is paret of the 26-mile long 10, 000-acre Lee Valley Regional Park. Construction on the new course started in 2009 and the venue opened in spring 2011 as the only brand new London 2012 venue open for public use before the Games. This includes two new canoe slalom courses: a 300m competition course and a 160m intermediate/training course. A 10, 000sq m lake feeds a system of pumps that provide the 300m course with 15cubic metres of water per second. The white water is created by these pumps and the obstacles placed in the course. After the games the temporary seating will be removed and the two courses and the facilities building will remain as a venue for canoeing and kayaking for the local community and visitors, suitable for all levels of users from beginners to elite athletes. It will be a major white water rafting leisure attraction and will be owned, funded and managed by the Lee Valley Regional Park Authority, and offer an extensive sports development programme, run in partnership with the British Canoe Union. Canoe Sprint events are being held at a separate venue at Eton Dorney.
