In 1997 Stadtwerke Dusseldorf, the utility of the city of Dusseldorf had decided to set up a turn-key combined heat and power (CHP) station as replacement for a coal-fired boiler at its power plant in Lausward, Dusseldorf. One of the conditions of the local government was that it had to be built into the existing boiler house. CHP is based on one natural gas fired Siemens gas turbine V64.3A, one unfired dual-pressure heat recovery steam generator (HRSG) and one condensing steam turbine with one controlled extraction for district heating condenser. Diesel oil is used as supplementary fuel. The electrical power of 103 MW is fed into the public power grid. The thermal power of 75 MW is fed into the district heating grid of the city of Dusseldorf. The plant was commissioned in the summer 2000.
