Swans of Wells is an arts project displayed on the streets of Wells from June until September 2012, to celebrate the Queen's Diamond Jubilee. 60 swans, decorated by a team of talented artists from Wells, Bath, Bristol and beyond, and sponsored by local businesses, organisations and individuals, will be on display in the streets of Wells, Somerset. At the end of this period they will be auctioned for charity. The swan is traditionally a royal bird. All swans in open waters, are owned by the Queen, and Wells is famous for the resident swans swimming on the moat of Bishop’s Palace, and pulling the Gatehouse bell asking to be fed. After gracing the streets of the historic city for the summer, the swans will be rounded up in early September and displayed in one giant flock for the 'Swansong Auction Preview Weekend' at the Bishop's Palace in Wells on 15th & 16th September, when thousands of swan fans are expected to come and say their final farewells before the 'Swansong' charity auction on 29th September, which will be broadcast live online.
