Two Burmese teenage girls sit at a jetty at the Yangon River in the former Burmese capital city of Yangon and talk on their mobile phone. The number of mobile phones has increased tremendously in recent times especially shortly after the Qatar-based telecommunications provider Ooredoo launched its services in Myanmar. After decades of political isolation and economic embargo the South East Asian country which is rich in natural resources is gradually opening up and showing signs of economic reforms. Many Burmese are hoping for further steps towards democracy and more economic reforms after the next elections in November 2015.
