Western Australian Tiliqua rugosa, or Bobtail lizard. Common in bush areas around Perth, especially on sunny, warm days in the spring months of September through to December. Unfortunately, with the continued destruction of Perth's native bush areas and expanding urban development, Bobtails are a common site squashed along the sides of roads. Also known as a Shingleback, the Bobtail lizard, despite its looks, is relatively harmless to humans and children often pick them up. They will put on a defensive display if cornered, opening their mouth wide and displaying their tongue, yet this is often just bravado. Their bite can be firm, but not severe.
