HOUSE COVERED IN VIRGINIA CREEPER CAMBRIDGE Britain's countryside is turning into a kaleidoscope of colours as autumn officially starts today (Fri).Bright orange, red, yellow and purple trees are now warming up the UK's streets and parks as the days get colder and the nights get longer.Yesterday(Thurs) people were making the most of the last day of summer to go punting on the River Cam in Cambridge, laze around on the river bank and enjoy woodland strolls. After one of the warmest and driest springs on record, many trees started to lose their leaves early this year.Hazelnut, acer and laburnum leaves started turning yellow at the beginning of August, according to the Royal Horticultural Society. While lots of horse chestnut trees lost their leaves in the summer due to the invasive leaf miner moth that is spreading across the country.Data collected over the years by the Woodland Trust shows most trees across the UK will be showing full-tinting by late October.
