Main entrance of 1000 years old Tungnath Temple built by Pandavas at district Rudraprayag in Uttarakhand, (India). Tungnath temple lies in the Tungnath mountain range of Rudraprayag district in Uttarakhand. It is located at an altitude of 3680 m and the Tugnath range makes the Alaknanda and Mandakini river valleys. The temple is believed to be 1000 years old and was built by Pandavas, who were seeking Lord Shiva’s blessing as an act of penance after the Mahabharata war. It is one of the five places (Panch kedar) where Lord Shiva appeared after hiding from the Pandavas, and thus, these became the sites for the temples. Tungnath is also a well known trekking destination offering views of popular Himalayan peaks which lie just above it.
