Dante Gabriel Rossetti was an English poet, illustrator, painter and translator. He was one of the founders of the Pre-Raphaelite Brotherhood in 1848 and was later to be the main inspiration for second generation of artists and writers influenced by the movement. The gravestone reads: Here sleeps Gabriel Charles Dante Rossetti honoured under the name of Dante Gabriel Rossetti. Among painters as a painter - among poets as a poet - Born in London of parentage mainly Italian 12 May 1828. Died at Birchington 9 April 1882. The grave was deigned by Rossetti's friend, Ford Madox Brown
