Mixed or Coloured Cloth Hall, Leeds, – an old engraving c. 1760. Leeds was the centre of trade in cloth, unfinished or 'white' cloth was traded in the White Cloth Halls – four of these were built successively as business flourished. The Mixed or Coloured Cloth Hall was built of brick in 1758 at the south end of Park Row and had a large central courtyard. There was space for 1, 770 display stalls inside and mixed or coloured cloth was sold here. The central courtyard could hold 20, 000 people and was used for public meetings. The hall was demolished in 1890.
